In re: Foley grooming Selby, I think that's certainly what Forest meant her older readers at least to understand Selby's anxiety was, which Nicola understands and cannot/daren't fully articulate, and Peter is either oblivious to or doesn't want to believe. But I don't think Foley is necessarily actually an abuser, no, just a very odd, unstable, opportunistic character. For some superbly-realised sexually creepy!Foley try this (http://archiveofourown.org/works/28551) fic by ankaret (he's creeping on Ginty in the fic, and it only goes as far as a kiss, but it's still brain-bleach stuff, in the absolutely best possible way. I always forget it isn't canon.)
