I think the Guardian always had that sort of connotation*; after all, it's an alarming thought but people in AT/TMATT/FL who are about my sort of age or at most a handful of years older can remember their elders fulminating about the MG's attutude to the Boer War in the same way I can recall people talking about the line it was taking on Vietnam.


*Well, I disapprove of the line it took on the American Civil War, but that really was due to its constituency.
