Falconer's Lure readthrough schedule

We'll be reading Falconer's Lure from Friday. If you need a copy of the text, there are people in the comm who can help with that; send me a pm. You're also probably all pretty sick of me by now too, so I'm delighted to say there'll be some guest posts by other [livejournal.com profile] trennels members for this one.

18th July: Chapters 1-3
25th July: Chapters 4-6 -- guest post by [livejournal.com profile] highfantastical
1st August: Chapters 7-9 -- guest post by [livejournal.com profile] sprog_63 (tbc)
8th August: Chapters 10 & 11.

It's also been mooted that we take a break at some point. How would people feel about, say a 2-week holiday after the end of Falconer's Lure, resuming with End of Term on 22nd August? Do also feel free to make your own suggestions in comments. If you're willing to undertake a guest post at any point, do indicate your interest by sending me a pm.

I'm enjoying the read through, even though I am not commenting as I never seem to have anything important enough to add! But maybe with EofT, as it's my favourite.

It suits me to have a little break in the summer, too.

What I'd really like to know, though, is how to get the yellow 'new' tags to appear on the new posts in the really long threads - it did for the first couple of weeks, but somehow the format has changed since, and they're gone. Now I just see loads of hidden comments with 'expand' next to them, but no indication any more whether they are new comments, nor what date they've been added. So I have to open every one to find the 5 or 6 new posts that I can tell (from the comment numbers) must have been added since I last read it. I'm almost to the point of waiting a few days to read it all, so that I can just read it as one continuous thread. But that then makes it less easy to comment. If anyone has any ideas about this, I'd be very grateful.

I don't have a journal here or anything; I just have the account and then have the trennels site bookmarked, if that makes a difference.

I can't help, but exactly the same thing happened to me. Annoying.

I remember, some time ago, it would chart how many new messages had been added but not necessarily where they were.

IJ has its own rules and we'll probably find it all suddenly changes back on a whim!

Possibly the mods and/or someone Wise in the Ways of LJ will have a real solution to this, but in the meantime, have you considered tracking comments? I know not everyone likes that, but I sometimes find it very helpful for keeping up with busy discussions, especially if I'm busy myself. I just described it, below, to res23, in case zie wasn't aware it was an option. Many apologies if you've tried it already and loathe it!

Um, I will have to investigate! I haven't changed the settings at all, so I'm not sure why it would work sometimes but not every time.

(I use track comments a lot.)

Many thanks - I'll try this because at times it would be very useful.

This may not meet your needs, but something I periodically do if it's a busy post is track the comments so that they *all* go into my email. If you look at the bottom of the entry there's a link, 'Track Comments', and if you click on that it takes you through to a screen where you can select preferences for having new comments sent to your LJ inbox, email, or both. Most email programmes then have links to take you to various places in the thread if you want to reply.

Might not work for you if you greatly prefer to read all on one page, but just thought I'd mention it because it's something I've found helpful myself. :)

thanks, I'll give that a try if the old format doesn't come back soon.
