I tend towards this point of view. I think the family - especially Rowan, as she's the most likely to have noticed (Karen being tied up with studying and the twins being much younger) - are fairly hacked off with the Unity-fication of Ginty and want her to snap out of it. Rowan may be being dictatorial, but I think that Ginty would normally have taken part. Even if it's just straight teenage rebellion, a swift shove in the right direction doesn't go amiss. I remember being "forced" into doing things by my parents and actually enjoying them instead of being all teenagerly and aloof.
