Possibly a sweeping generalisation but people seem to see Emily Bronte's early death as sad in a rather romantic and poetic way. Whereas with Jane Austen it's regret that she didn't get to write any more books - suggesting that people would rather read more books like Persuasion than any more Wuthering heights?
