But does she want The Idiot Boy or does she want a pony? It's Nicola who actually knows the pony as an individual, and given she's just been told that Buster's getting on and getting past it, and had her nose put out of joint by Patrick - making a point about her riding compared to Ginty's, at least implicitly, she's perhaps going into buying the creature from mixed motives, but they don't seem to be pure point-proving.
