It's interesting that in Peter's Room Patrick (who is physically fearless) actually trembles at the thought of torture, and Nicola (who is also physically fearless) says that his refusal to allow his character to be tortured is sensible; whereas the three who are full of physical fears are outraged at his refusal to play torturer and victim. I'm sure there is a psychological explanation here but I can't quite put my finger on it.
