How odd ... I always found Patrick's caring enough about religion/faith/Church/God to think/fret/worry/talk about it with sincerity one of the unusual distinguishing features of Forest's writing.
It is a meta-pleasure (for me) that we all enjoy the books in such different ways. Discovering here the different opinions about Patrick or Ginty (not to mention Giles) has given me a whole new perspective on these well loved and often read books.
