The only sense I can make of 'blue denim' is that she meant a generic heavy cotton. Otherwise it's a very peculiar image.

She's so allusive about the uniforms that I can totally believe in navy and white checks that she just never got around to mentioning. Or maybe it's stripes, like those dresses...
