For me it's off-set by his innocence and credulity, that he can be rather dense in some ways. There's probably some necessity for Nicholas to be a little bit wonderboy in order that he could have such entry into the world of the players. And while some flaws might have made him more interesting, in lots of ways it's not really his story, more he is the conduit through which we learn the stories of Southampton, and Shakespeare.
I have ralised I might seem a little defensive - I don't mean to be! I hadn't thought before that he has very few flaws, and you're right that he doesn't. I think that for me he still manages to be an interesting character.
