Girls Gone By .... End Of Term

Lovely to have found you all!

I had an email from Badger Books to let me know that End of Term has been reissued.  Just in case anyone didn't know & wants a copy ...

www.badgerbooks.co.uk/end-of-term-867-p.asp (doubtless available elsewhere too!)

In my case it should be Girls Go Buy!
I already have a Puffin copy (extremely well worn/read from childhood / young adulthood) and a hard back remaindered copy I bought in the 90s and I told myself I would stop buying AF when I had them all (which I now do) ... but this one has the cover of the edition I read first from the library in the 1970s!  I rather suspect it is going to join my collection ... perhaps I'll stop when I have a complete GGB set?!

Happy reading.

Ah go on .. you know you want to! Just one more little book - it'll fit nicely into your bookshelf ...
As an excuse for a read-along, Michelle Cooper of Memoranda (lots of links in previous threads) is planning to blog EOT over the holiday period.

Is that the original blurb? It's awful! I would have bought it if it didn't have references to 'Jewish Miranda' etc - it would make any contemporary parent blanch. What a shame - it will surely put people who don't know the book off.

Is it that bad, or am I misreading? It's not singling out Miranda as such, just saying that the play is seen through the eyes of the C of E Marlows, Roman Catholic Patrick and Jewish Miranda. It's implying that the reader gets to view the Play from the perspective of each character's religion (or lack of religion in Lawrie's case). This is one of the major themes of the book after all, or is it that contemporary parents tend to dislike any mention of religion in a children's book.
