Robert says the house belongs to Sir Charles, to which Nicola replies that Peter knows a man called Foley who teaches him at Dartmouth, whereupon Robert says, "You mean Lewis Foley, He's the youngest son." I've always taken that to mean he is Sir Charles's son. And he has brothers (four of them, I think, though I can't find the reference that says he's one of five offhand) but Robert says they didn't go around together as a family (in a dysfunctional version of the Marlows' respect for privacy, perhaps). Robert says he's been up on the crow's nest himself, which probably suggests that Lewis did live there as a boy, I think.
