I just noticed something else in this passage. Foley asks her to steer with the tiller, but never mentions that the steering is reversed. AF was sleeping on this one. As much as Nicola has read about the sea and ships,I should think it would still take her a minute or two to recognize how to steer opposite to where one wants to go.
