I do wish Pam Marlow's characterisation was more developed in FL. I think there's far more to get to grips with in later books (perhaps not coincidentally, when Geoff is out of the picture...), and I do actually like her quite a bit -- but FL is not Pam at her most interesting. Of course there's always a lot to be unpicked, seeing as it's Forest! But compared with End of Term, for instance, I end up a bit frustrated.
'Finishing' for Rowan seems very odd. I wouldn't have thought the Marlows were in those circles socially, nor able to afford a Season? It just doesn't make sense, really. Perhaps AF meant something more like a couple of terms at cooking school in London (living at home) with a posture class, or whatever, rather than the archetypal finishing school abroad.
