I think that probably Rowan was a fundamentally much more admirable character, to Forest, than Ginty was -- it seems pretty clear from things she's said to trennels members that she had a fixed positive view of Nicola, and I wouldn't be surprised if that to some extent embraced Nicola's favourite family members too.
Whether or not the degree of complexity surrounding who's right, where our sympathy should or does lie, etc., is intentional or simply a side effect of writing of Forest's quality, is probably beyond the scope of this discussion (or at least beyond my scope!), but I don't think, at a guess, that she was secretly trying to get us to sympathise with Ginty. I expect we are, insofar as she 'meant' us to support anyone, supposed to be largely backing up Rowan. All the same ... the situation is so nuanced that quite a few people do seem to be reading against the grain here, and feeling for Ginty, and that intrigues me.
