As someone who returns to Antonia Forest under stress from adolescence to date (for 35 years then!) I wouldn't knock it. The danger with reading a new book in that state I find is that sometimes the book is contaminated by the stress, but an old favourite works well for me!
Karen at least started Kingscote in the Juniors, certainly she was a "Second" (because Miranda in Kindergarten saw her act something). So poor lass she was shipped off to boarding school at 8-ish ... ICR any mention of pre-Kingscote school for any of them other than the twins (and then I keep getting fic and canon mixed!). Somehow I have always imagined day school in Hampstead not governess for the others though.
