Agreed. Perhaps, also, the "getting involved with the festival" stuff has been slightly cooked up by the older children (Karen and Rowan)as a plausible excuse to get the family out of their parents' hair while they go through what is by anyone's standard a fairly major upheaval (and give them some time together, too.)
Which might cast some further light on Rowan's unsympathetic attitude to Ginty not wanting to play along, too.
