Surely Rowan wouldn't want her own place so early on - and she's really only trainee farm manager at this point, and has no family of her own. I think a son in the same role would surely also live at Trennels. I agree she should be paid, but probably she is. And I agree there are questions about her long term interests from the farm manager arrangement, but I don't think Peter's assuming he'll displace her, he possibly hopes that the farm could support both of them (and maybe it could once Jon's dodgy debts are paid off).
Actually Peter becoming farm manager - if he wanted to - might be the best thing that could happen for Rowan.
