But initially there's probably a bit of Rowan overdoing it too because she's got a lot to prove - can't be seen to be slacking and needs to demonstrate she's capable of banging in her own fence posts.
For anecdata, my father who worked for his father on the farm in the late 1950s/1960s only rated a cottage of his own when he got married (the existing tenant voluntarily moved out for my parents in a dreadfully Tranter-like manner). Until then he was back in his childhood bedroom. My sister, who now works on the farm, eventually rented a bungalow of her own from a neighbouring farmer down the road though.
