That's very interesting, Melandranne, as one of the reasons I feel Mrs Clavering got it wrong here is precisely because of Rose's concern her grandmother would leave without saying goodbye. She asked Mrs C if she would still be there when they got back from seeing round the farm. I know that Mrs C hedged, so it's not that she clearly said one thing and did another, but nonetheless (and even taking into account Mrs Marlow's good point about it being her daughters who died as well as Rose's mother and aunt, and it is not that I don't feel for her too): I still think she should have said "goodbye".
