She does dump Sandra Grigson pretty hard, I think, and is notably vicious to her in Attic Term when Sandra's only being ordinarily friendly. I think perhaps Miranda hasn't really had a schoolfriend of her own age who's up to her intellectual mark before Nicola, and could be flighty out of boredom. But when she really likes and respects someone she's very loyal.
