But it's hard for me to separate my natural sympathy with Nicola's wing of the family from my feelings about the whole situation. Like, okay, if I imagine BEING Karen and being in love and determined to get married and SCREW YOU ALL IT'S MY LIFE AND YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.....I mean, I personally am very standoffish about my private life and no end annoyed when my family stick their noses in. OTOH, Karen wants her family to bend over backwards to accommodate her oh-so-serious-and-not-at-all-impulsive plans with no warning whatsoever. It's not surprising they don't understand, and actually the whole thing does seem like a major set of regrets waiting to happen.
I wonder if Karen is secretly subscribing to Lawrie's condemned-in-no-uncertain-terms philosophy: "if it doesn't work out, there's always divorce..."
