It would also (in the sense that Ann represents something that Nicola is reacting against in herself) give added context to the bit in End of Term where Lawrie is acting Nicola being ill, and Nicola wonders uneasily if she really is like that, and, if so, if that isn't a bit of a trial for everyone.
