I think the 'supper dress' Nicola changes into in EoT is the 'dreggy uniform dress'. One of the reasons I love the Margery Gill Puffin covers is in their detail to the plot, ie not by an illustrator who doesn't seem to have read the books (as in modern Blyton editions, for example).
The Gill cover of EoT shows Nicola and Lawrie at the noticeboard after Lawrie finds out she is not to be the Shepherd Boy. Nicola has already changed for supper, and so is in her supper dress, whereas Lawrie is still in uniform. I always loved that Margery Gill had made that distinction.
(I also love the cover of Cricket Term, where Nicola and Tim are sitting discussing the team and the Play, and, ominously in the background, *there* is Lois Sanger in scarlet... And Autumn Term, where Tim is carrying her stolen pears as Pomona climbs the steps to the main building.)
