This comment got lost in the mix until today, for me, and it seems to me that it's spot on.
It would also (picking up a theme for a later discussion) explain some of Ann's disapproval of the Latin mass; it's not just that it's a barrier to ecumenism, as she says, but that it allows a lot of people to do the easy wallow-in-the-ritual-and-ignore-the-words thing.
