I agree, particularly about snatching babies, although I haven't got hold of The Thursday Kidnapping yet.
The presentation of the back story all seems rather sloppy including the actual legal position or legal options of any of the protagonists.
The idea that you follow your own instincts even if they clash with law or authority is all very well at Kingscote, because that's a dictatorship, and nothing there is a matter of life or death anyway, but it's disturbing in the outside world when it includes abduction. It also seems to me that Forest should engage with the aspects of the situation that are influenced by the law and the local authority and not only by the actions of the parents involved.
It seems to be an aspect of Nicola's code of honour that you can obey or ignore authority but you don't ever attempt to negotiate with it. Maybe this is one reason that Felix gets such an easy ride from the Marlows for not going through the courts and just snatching.
