My mother's Chinese, and I had a lot of contact with the Chinese community when I was growing up, where the most popular names for girls sounded almost 19th century to me: Grace, Adeline, Elaine, Ivy, Winifred, Audrey. In my school (Presbyterian girls' school, academic, middle to upper middle class, 1984-1989), Karen and Fiona were very popular. Scottish influence perhaps?
