Pointless time-wasting

Bored of searching Facebook for long-lost primary school buddies, I started typing the names of AF characters into the search box instead, feeling that if the Marlows were into social networking Facebook would probably be their site of choice. The results were as follows:

1 Giles Marlow
No Karen Marlows (although a few Karen Marlowes)
No Rowan Marlows (not, I feel, surprising)
No Ann Marlows (although one Ann Marie and an Anna)
No Virginia Marlows
7 Peter Marlows
4 Nicola Marlows
No Lawrence Marlows of either gender

And somewhat to my surprise, 6 Patrick Merricks.

What an excellent idea. Were any of the Patrick Merricks yellow-eyed, and had any of them become a monk?

Not that monks using Facebook is something I can easily get my head around, but I bet they do.

The absence of the others is because Karen is using Edwin's dreary surname, whatever it was, Rowan is now Rowan Merrick, having married Ronnie in a moment if boredom, Ann has given herself to God in some form and isn't Facebooking, Ginty has married an Honourable she met hunting and is now Virginia Whittingstall-Cumberbatch, and Lawrie is now called Lindsay Lohan.

Actually I can just see Rowan as a Facebook refusenik. "Why on earth would I want to get back in touch with ghastly types like Val Longstreet?" while Lawrie looks scandalised at somebody not wanting in on the innovation of the decade.

I suspect it is because you should be looking for:

Karen Dodd (or possibly Marlow-Dodd)
Rowan is too mature to use such things and her farm doesnt have the interwebnetz.
Sister Mary Ann also has no internets.
Ginty is only available via her website RosinaMerrick.com
and Lawrie is Sophia Lawrence. ;)

You win your bet. Not only do I know an Anglican monk on facebook, but "OSB" brings up three people using it as a suffix, SJ at least one, and a quick search on possible names for networks brings up, among others "Benedictine Fathers, Vatican City". Actually there are several people claiming to be in Vatican City, though I suspect the majority are not serious.
