Monday 3 September has come and it's time to post your fics!
First, reposted with permission, a drabble from
legionseagle, written in response to me expressing dubiousness that one could write Rowan / Lois femslash in 100 words.
Here are my own efforts:
Aunt Edith's Seminary:
smellingbottle asked for something from Tim's POV prior to Nicola realising that Tim likes Lawrie best, so here it is, though I think it's a bit earlier than might have been expected. Gen, U, 100 words.
Summer Term:
lizarfau asked for Lawrie's reaction when Nicola goes up to IIIA a term before she does, and
thewhiteowl asked for how Lawrie managed to move up to IIIA when she spent half the term off with a broken leg, or for that matter, how she reacted when Nicola was moved up before her. Gen, U, 350 words.
The Interior Life Of Meg Hopkins:
glittermouse asked for anything featuring Meg Hopkins, Crommie or Miss Latimer. Gen, 12 for medical references and general darkness of theme, 2060 words.
Hope you enjoy them, and I can't wait to see yours!
To avoid spamming the flists of people who don't like fanfic, please post your own drabbles or links to them in comments to this rather than in separate posts. Can I also remind people to use lj-cut and post ratings/warnings if they're including anything "post watershed"? You can't use lj-cut in a link, so if you're posting anything that you think might frighten, say, Blackleg, please post it to your own LJ or elsewhere and put it behind a cut, with a clearly displayed rating viewable.
This post owes a great deal to last year's equivalent as posted by

"Injury? That? Frankly, darling, I've seen bigger midge-bites."
"Oh? Does "supercilious" run in the Marlow blood-line? Like blond hair and - well, the less said about your Great-Uncle Larry the better, eh?"
"Bitch."
"Takes one to know one. And now - Ro, sweetie, what was it you were doing with the wintergreen embrocation before you started writing out the team list for the Wade Collegiate game?"
"What - this?"
"I -ah - ow - is that what you consider in the best traditions of the Service?"
"Read Churchill. Darling."

Date: 2007-09-03 12:12 pm (UTC)Well, this is not actually that, but anyway:
I'd been embarrassed enough, limping into safety under the auspices of the lifeboat and coastguard, with the eyes of the Service on me, but to make it worse it turned out I'd last seen the commander of the cool grey frigate as a long-legged sub in my own wardroom.
Well, it all seemed better once he'd stood me a drink or three, and even my estimate of the cost of damage to the boat sank under the alcohol.
"I've seen worse," Marlow said. "Sailed worse, 'smatteroffact."
"What was your worse voyage ever?"
Marlow considered, then grinned. "Oh, that's easy. A fifteen-foot day boat, across the Channel and back. In January with a wind getting up on the way back. I had a disagreement with the boom that left me knocked out and my fifteen-year-old brother single-handed. We nearly made it and then we wrecked ourselves practically within hailing distance of home."
"Might I ask what was passing through your mind when you set out?"
"Soft-" He bit off whatever he'd been about to say. "A combination of unexpected, um, opportunity and over-confidence."
"And to think I used to consider you a responsible young officer,” I said flippantly.
"Really?" Marlow's nearer eyebrow almost disappeared under his hair. "That was three years Not Found Out."
"What on earth were you up to, drug-running?"
I was startled by a brief flash of his old fire-at-will look, but it was not longer my duty to find out what was behind it. He answered lightly, "Most secret—I've never let out to my mother how nearly I drowned Binks. I'm surprised he hasn't gone in for cows in Iowa or something instead."
"There's another one of you in the Service, is there? I'm lucky I left when I did," I said with only half-joking fervency.

Date: 2007-09-03 12:35 pm (UTC)London had been Mum's idea. Rowan wouldn't have minded coming back for good, a miracle, no more farm ever, but a week of visiting relatives and theatre trips escorted by naval officers chosen for suitability and age was not a substitute.
A space opened up in the crowded foyer bar - quick dark face, brown hair flicking back, gorgeous red dress, laughing with her companion - 'Oh, I love living here so much!'
Rowan smoothed Mum's old blue silk and turned politely to Lieutenant - was it Bailey? - bringing her drink.
'So will you be based at Port Wade?'
