AF books for sale and AF conference publications

I keep forgetting to say so here, but when I was in Cambridge a couple of months ago, I discovered that The Haunted Bookshop (9 St. Edward's Passage, Tel (01223)312913) had a positive plethora of Forest books for sale. These may have been sold since I was there, as they don't seem to be listed on the website, but I doubt it, as there were absolute loads of them (including several copies of The Ready-Made Family and Attic Term, a copy of Peter's Room and many more besides) and they were all alarmingly expensive, being mostly first editions in good condition. If anyone is pining to complete their collection and feeling prosperous, you might want to give them a call.

Speaking of AF publications, wasn't there meant to be a CD or book or some such of the proceedings of the conference last year? I know I put my name down for something along these lines - does anyone know what's happened?

ADDENDUM I: Just read back a few entries and saw that the now-deleted lizarfau mentioned a falling out between AF and Tim Kennemore (whom I noticed dedicated one of her books to AF. Always wondered whether her real name was Thalia...) Ooer! Now I'm all curious. If lizarfau is still reading this, how did you know about this falling out?

ADDENDUM II: Aha! Just did a search on the Haunted Bookshop website, and found the other Forests. There's 'Falconer's Lure', both Players books, and 'Run Away Home' as well.

I wasn't at the conference, so would really like to know if transcripts/documents are available

"A source close to AF" once told me that Tim Kennemore sent AF one of her then unpublished novels and asked if she would read it. AF did and liked it. TK said she had written some others too, but couldn't get them published. AF recommended TK's novels to her own editor at Faber and TK's novels were duly published. They continued to correspond, but fell out at some stage - the person didn't tell me why. Which is why I hope the biography covers it!

Actually, £250 isn't too bad considering there's a copy on abebooks.com for $1200 american!!

I saw that - I thought at first "Oh, I bet Players and Rebels will have gone already, since this post is a couple of days old" and then I saw the price. If I weren't so poor, I'd buy it, photocopy it and then try to sell it for £500 or so on abe.

Just out of curiosity (and slightly off topic), has anyone ever sold books to The Haunted Bookshop? How does it work - e.g. I know approximately what value this book would sell for, so what sort of % would I expect to sell it to them for? If it's worth £150, I don't want to sell for only £50 or whatever, but equally I'd probably be more likely to actually sell it through a specialist bookshop than if I tried to sell it on eBay or wherever. So I accept that there will be some commission/markup. But just not sure how much to expect, or how much to haggle!

(the other difficult thing is that this book comes up on ABE books only about once every two or three years, so it can be hard to get much evidence about the value. And the ones that come up aren't a first edition, either, which mine is).

(not a Forest book sadly, mine are not that good!)

(or indeed, if not that bookshop in particular, then any similar! That's just a likely one for me to go to as I can get to it without too much trouble, and they specialise in this sort of book)

"The Players and the Rebels" comes out in 2008, according to the GGB site. Maybe I ought to sell my copy for £250 first!:-) (It cost me 25p from the library!)

There was due to be a CD or similar but I don't know what is happening to it now. I was approached a while ago about doing a bit of audio editing and about mp3 versus audio CDs but it all went quiet and I didn't get any reply to my messages. I wouldn't hold your breath although I think there is still a plan to do either the CD or transcripts.

Incredible! I could sell this book (which I don't even like that much) and buy the most recent volume of the Rembrandt Research Project's *Corpus*. Anybody want to make me an offer?
