Many congratulations, Sally Hayward! I've just read Spring Term and I loved it. You catch the tone and style of AF extremely well and I was gripped from beginning to end. What a story! I was moved, and I also laughed out loud at Peter's 'offspring' commentary. The characters are just as real, subtle and complex as in canon,  and I think it's a great achievement!

About 2/3rds through. Definitely enjoyable. I'd forgotten how much I actually care about Nick and Patrick - they practically have an real existence for me.

I'm not sure. Rough on Ginty (never one of my favourites)- she looks like she has lost everything. I think Patrick's musings and growing awareness of his feelings for Nick are especially well done, and given Patrick's personality, very true to life and probable. There is infatuation (Ginty) and then there's the imperceptible mutation of a friendship into something bigger. I doubt Patrick has even fully realized that he loves Nick, but he is aware that something is very different.

Yes, I agree. What I thought rang especially true was the way that the characters have deepened since Autumn Term, which I find quite wooden, and which is in keeping with them getting older anyway - having more insights to how people behave and how life doesn't play by the rules. I think this is true of people like Tim and Miranda too. I thought it was actually quite courageous to leave Gin with nothing; the killer blow being from Monica of all people, and interesting that Ginty herself traces her 'bear that coughs' back to the pretence about the diving comp which was terms ago.
