There's been some talk of Forest meet-ups in the previous threads, and someone mentioned it might be good to have a thread to co-ordinate them.

So, if you'd like to co-ordinate a meeting with other Forest fans near you, do comment below.

[livejournal.com profile] coughingbear and/or [livejournal.com profile] thewhiteowl: may we have a 'meet-up' tag, please? Thank you!

Meet-up

Well I would love to meet all of you, but I live in New England. If I can find a way across the pond, Trennels fans will be on my itinerary. On the other hand, maybe by the time we finish the readthrough, we should coordinate a meet-up to celebrate. Perhaps by then, I'd have found a way over.

If you tell us where in New England, we might be visiting! I have friends in Boston and may get over to see them at some point.

I live in New England too so it's plausible something could be arranged...

Well I live on the Maine coast about halfway up and about 200 miles north of Boston. We occasionally venture that far south. Emily_shore, Where are you? You mean there is more than one person in the US who has read AF? Hallelujah!

I'm in central New Hampshire, so an easy day trip to Boston or Portsmouth, and conceivably could make it to Portland given enough inducement.

I lived in the UK for quite a few years but actually only read Antonia Forest after I moved back here, thanks to the persuasive powers of Lilliburlero.

I'm also in the US (alas, not in New England though I attended college in Vermont and just spent the summer there). I have never met another American who has read Forest. I lived in England as a child and adolescent which was how I stumbled upon the school stories. Always longed to read the other books but had to wait until the Girls Gone By reprints to do so.

I'd love to meet up with other Forest fans, but sadly I expect I won't be in England (or New England) any time soon.

As am I, and I know one or two other people are, if they fancied a meet-up - not everybody enjoys them, of course.

I am also quite shy at the prospect, but...well, why not. I live on the Thames, so we could at least be Marlow watery types.

lilliburlero and mods, is it possible to have a London meet-up thread, or am I being Third Remove backward not seeing how? Thank you.

How about a provisional Friday 3 October evening meeting - on the Thames as stated, around Richmond/Kew?

Richmond and Kew work well for me, but not Friday 3!

London meet-up

Richmond/Kew is fine, but I can't make that weekend (from Devon) & and Sats generally a bit easier.

But great to have a date on the books, hope you go ahead.

P.S. Is that "on the Thames" as in barge/houseboat ?

It is on a houseboat, yes, am quite a lucky bunny!

I'll have another think about dates. Possibly set up a Facebook page for Trennels meetups?

I'm vaguely thinking Saturday 11 October now, but have an odd idea I'm meant to be doing something that weekend...

Please post here too: I don't do facebook!

But was thinking, perhaps local meet ups in near future makes sense and then (says she wistfully) a longer term, bigger meet up - at the end of the readthrough, perhaps?

Meeting in London on a houseboat to discuss Marlows. How delicious! I'd love to be there! Sounds lovely. I do hope you do it!

I'm in the northern part of NSW in Australia. If anyone ever plans to visit Brisbane (2ish hours) or Byron Bay (very close) do say mention it. I shall host you to a very high tea on the verandah!

Sydney is on my bucket list, so I may as well head northwards when I finally get there. I'd really like to be going to the Melbourne Fringe this week, but that's not going to happen.

Perhaps we should all go on a pilgrimage to Dorset somewhere.

Copper Kettles in Dorset

From: [identity profile] sprog-63.livejournal.com
There are (according to Google) Copper Kettles in Christchurch, Bournemouth and Andover in Dorset! No idea whether they are any good though.

However I am also happy to travel. London is easy at the weekend for me, & depending on numbers could even possibly host (at my mother's).

I'd get to Cambridge if necessary (for this I'd get to Aberdeen; though NSW or Maine might be a bit of a push!) I'm based in Devon (where there is also a Copper Kettle!), if that's any good for anyone.

Cambridge is my only option at the moment! London or Dorset might be possible in a year or so with a lot of planning, but not for now: I am rooted. :)

Pity I didn't know before. I was in Seattle at the beginning of September. My work takes me to Port Townsend, WA, once in a while. Perhaps next time? Did you find out about Forest in England or America?

An online acquaintance of mine (now dead), Margot Louis of the University of Victoria (BC), accidentally posted a reply to a Girlsown discussion of AF to a different mailing list (Child_Lit) and I asked her about it. That was my intro to Girlsown and Forest in one fell swoop.
