I'm on a roll - Chapter Four is ready as I've had a few days to myself.
Many thanks for all kind comments - they are so welcome. I do mean to do something about putting the proper links in so it's easier to read and the chapters are all in order and will do eventually.
And I know it's entirely not Nick to do the earrings thing but in her defence she does have this impulsive streak and penchant for doing the wrong thing occasionally otherwise she'd be too perfect to be true. Actually I've never been that keen on Nicola, or to be perfectly honest with any of the Marlows, (and I can't stand Giles) apart from Rowan and Peter who don't seem quite so up themselves as the rest of the family.It's the combination of realistic likeable/unlikeable character traits within the family and without that make the books so timelessly fascinating. There's such a distinct absence of characters being black, white or reformed which tends to be a feature of children's literature even some of the best of it. With AF's characters you feel they are unfinished believable individuals whose development is ongoing and open.
