The Marlows in print

Harry Potter fans can find 229,761 different fanfics just on one website - fortunately I don't collect him, but I do collect Antonia Forest, so I'm trying to make a complete list of all Forest-related literature. Here's a (short!) list of all the Forest fanfics I know of:

1. Rose and Lizard's various stories on her LiveJournal site;
2. Forester48's "Esther's Term", now into 8 chapters;
3. "The Chalet School and the Marlows", on the Chaletian website, by NickyJ;
4. "The Marlows and their Maker, to be published this year by Girls Gone By, previously available on line but not any more.

I've got printouts of all these, and all published writing by AF herself - is there anything else? I have an idea there's a very short incomplete piece somewhere else on the Chaletian website - anyone know where?

There's one thing - we may not have the quantity, but by heck we've got quality! Thanks to all the writers. :-)

There's a very short drabble somewhere that's Giles/Nicola. I can't remember where I saw it now.

The Marlows and their Maker isn't fanfic, as far as I know - when it was online it was more literary criticism/guide to the books.

Yes, the writing is very strong!

I cannot seem to get the whole of the Chalet Schhol and the Marlows. I went to www.chaletian.com and then onto the CBB Board and picked St Clares House. The thread said that Parts 1,2 and 3 had been archived but the links all went to "page not found". I then went to the "archives" of St Clares House and nothing was listed. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

I'll be able to find the link for you when I get back to my own computer - I'll post it later this evening. Alternatively, I've downloaded it onto Word, and can e-mail that to you if you prefer - but that one doesn't include all the readers' messages.

How to find it:

1. Open "www.chaletian.com/forum"
2. Go to "St/ Clare's House" - you'll need to scroll down the page
3. Near the top is a thread headed "Index Drabble-orum" - open it.
4. Follow the link to the index.
5. The authors are in alphabetical order; you're looking for NickyJ - about two-thirds of the way down page 1.

That gives you parts 1, 2 and 3 - 1 and 2 are quite short, 3 is long.

Part 4 isn't archived, it's still in St. Clare's House - currently on the third page, about 10th down. It hasn't been updated since May, so it doesn't look like we're going to get a conclusion, but there's plenty to get your teeth into - it comes to 70 A4 pages on Word, and that's without the visitors' comments!

If you do read it all, and see the comment by someone whose name I can't remember who said he/she had posted another fanfic somewhere in there, please let me know who it was. I remember the first chapter was quite promising but received an anonymous and thoroughly unpleasant (and unfair) review, and that may have put him/her off.

Ive got to say, NickyJ doesn't do herself too many favours: how many Royal Navy postings there are in neutral, landlocked Switzerland?

True, she does mention that as a problem somewhere in the thread! Still, as the Royal Navy now has more admirals than ships, there can't be much scope for a mere captain to get command of one - so maybe he's on a cultural exchange with the Swiss Navy? (And yes, there is a Swiss navy.)

Hello! An anonymous message as I'm not registered with LJ. I stumbled upon the Trennels community last week whílst doing a random AF Google search (as I do every few months in the hope of hitting upon a previously overlooked news article announcing that the manuscript of a new Marlow book has been found in a writing desk purchased from a house in Bournemouth...). So this seemed a good oppotunity to say how delighted I was to come across your fanfiction, Forester48! Am enjoying it greatly - its reminded me all over again how much I love the books and has prompted me to go back for yet another reread of Attic Term!
