Marlow cousin

Just finished re-reading The Ballet Family Again by Jean Estoril. A minor character is Tarn Marlow, the not very nice brief girlfriend of the son of the family. I was just wondering if she could be the unpleasant cousin Nicola mentions at the start of Autumn Term?

I seem to recall some fanfic about the cousin. I'm supposing it might be a 2nd cousin of sorts. If Geoff is the son of Great Uncle Lawrence's brother, then the cousin mentioned could be the child of a 3rd brother. And where does the name Tarn come from?

Perhaps her parents wanted a boy, so short for Tarnation?

I've heard it before. Isn't it a little lake? So it's a nature name, like Rowan, April, Laurel, Poppy etc. For some reason it feels like a Marlow cousin's name.

I haven't read the Jean Estoril, but I could see Rowan and Tarn being modern day sibling names.

Just googled the name. It is very rare as a first name, mostly male.
