*dons mod hat, coughs nervously*

The mod hat is rather dusty, because you're all very civilised. It's great to see so many people taking part in the discussion here, including visitors to LiveJournal.

If you don't want to create a journal or use OpenID, but still want to post something, then you can send it to the mods ([livejournal.com profile] coughingbear and myself) and we can post it for you.

If you're commenting on an entry without a journal, or aren't logged in, could I ask that you sign your comments? It doesn't have to be your real name, obviously; it's just to know who's talking, espeically when there are several Anonymouses in one thread.

Muchos grattos! :)

oh sorry - I'm a major culprit here - my work computer won't allow OpenID and I haven't got a journal. But I quite take the point - lots of anonymous comments isn't conducive to a good discussion!

I used to be a regular offender in this respect, because I haven't my own computer - but now I always use the same computer for Trennels so I don't think that I've done it recently
I'd like to write a journal but havent worked out how to do it. I read a good many and the huge variations in style suggest a high html competence which I haven't got.

Oh, you can chose from ten or so styles that LiveJournal have done with the hml all already done (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/preview.bml)

That looks quite interesting. Thank you.

There are qutie a few people who register and have a 'journal' with no entries. They use their ID to comment in communities. Maybe not everyone knows about this.

Yes, they might not all know about having an empty journal - which would also be free, since it would be unlikely that the user would want all the extra features that come with a paid account.

Actually, that's true. I for one didn't know, and don't have a journal because I don't feel I have anything particularly interesting to offer a worldwide audience! Besides which, we spend such a lot of time discussing our private lives, interests and research topics in the office that all my "Mitteilungsbedürfnisse" (an excellent German word for which there is no satisfactory translation, but which means "a need to communicate") are more than satisfied! But I will try and set up an empty journal to cut down on the "Anonymouses" in dicussion threads.

Sorry, double post .. but I wanted to see if my newly created journal works - and was far too impatient to wait until I had a valuable contribution to make ... apologies everyone! Caro (hopefully leapingirbis henceforth)
