Inquiring minds want to know. I was rereading Run Away Home, and I have a few religious-related questions. I'm an atheist, albeit with a vaguely Protestant background, and I don't understand some of the terms. Rowan says that when Ramsay does his duty by the ASB, Mrs Marlow goes to Evensong instead of Matins. So:

1) What's the ASB?
2) What's Evensong? Given the context, is it a Catholic service?
3) Why does Mrs Marlow cut Matins when it's the ASB?
4) Why does this upset Ann?

if it was a Chalet book, 'A boy's voice' at the other end of the telephone would have been an almost equal wrongdoing

But doesn't Miss Keith or Ferguson or someone actually interrogate Nicola about 1) whether she knows who Patrick is, 2) whether he is a "friend of the family", and 3) whether the parents on both sides approve the friendship in advance of the interview with Ginty? They obviously are trying to get to the bottom of what the real sin is, whereas Mrs Lambert's prurient assumptions are another strike against her.

My fault for not being clear - I suppose I meant that once he was established as a friend of the family (which I seem to recall Fergus finding slightly surprising) it became a nonissue, and there wasn't any bear-that-coughed 'You can't phone boys because it would lead to silliness on the part of Upper IVB' followup. Unless, of course, there was and it happened offstage between Ginty and Miss Keith.
