The excellent Vulpes Libres books site (vulpeslibris.wordpress.com) is going to have a discussion on Antonia Forest as part of their upcoming Children's Week. Here's what I know:
"Children's week will be from Sat 5th July to the following weekend. The Antonia Forest piece is on Thurs 10th July and will be about how she uses two classic children's book forms, the school story and the holiday adventure story, to explore some very real, subtle things about families, friendships, enmities, ethics, and growing up. That will be by Emma Darwin, historical novelist, writer of "The Mathematics of Love" and "A Secret Alchemy" (out soon).
The other stuff we have lined up is our favourite books including: Ogre Downstairs by Diana Wynne Jones, two-part interview with Julia Donaldson of Gruffalo fame, review of Keith Gray's book for teenage boys "The Ostrich Boys", "The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing: Traitor to the Nation" by M T Anderson and of "The Knife That Killed Me" - thought-provoking teen novel by Anthony McGowan and we are hoping to have an interview with Sally Nicholls, writer of "How to Live Forever"."
Look forward to it - I'm sure Trennels members will have lots to say!
