The Royal Wedding has made me reflect on some uncanny similarities between members of clan Windsor and clan Marlow:

Captain Marlow, bossy naval officer, high expectations of children, brisk, and often absent - Prince Philip

Mrs Marlow – emotionally distant, hands-off but tolerant mother of large brood – the Queen

Ginty – blonde, beautiful, needy, concerned with others’ image of her, lacking strong sense of identity and self-worth , with visions of herself as Mother Theresa of Calcutta– Princess Diana.

Patrick – takes himself too seriously, spends lots of time pondering theologicial/spiritual questions, overly indulged, involved with two sisters from the same family – Prince Charles

Nicola – practical, straightforward, honest, conscientious, sporty – Princess Anne

Giles – naval officer who seems to be doing really well in early career but with signs of arrogance and being too big for his boots that might bode badly later on – Prince Andrew

Peter – naval officer in the making, but character flaws and insecurities make it uncertain he will measure up in the event – Prince Edward

Ann – Girl Guide, keen member of the C of E, exceptionally conscientious, dutiful and family-minded – the Queen in her youth

Lawrie – err, too talented. Rowan? Karen? Mme Orly?

Maybe Lawrie has elements of the young Princess Margaret?

I was remembering the story about George VI's coronation, when Princess Elizabeth was going to have a coronet because she was heir to the throne and Princess Margaret made so much fuss that they made one for her too...very Lawrie!

I love that story! Very Lawrie indeed!

Totally agree with Lawrie being Princess Margaret, but don't think it's fair to compare Peter with Prince Edward. As for Rowan, maybe she's Camilla.

Absolutely, I've always thought Patrick and Rowan were possible.

Kay = Kate Middleton - swept off her feet by dashing sophisticated chap, gets wedding, and despite having always been so 'sensible' has no real clue what she's getting into?

Prince William - nice and bland and losing his hair - Ronnie?

Lol! I see Rowan as Princess Anne more than Nick, I think Nick's more subtle. Love Lawrie as Princess Margaret though. Great thought, especially when I think of her sitting drinking on the Merricks' stairs in Ros's great fic (which almost seems canon) (sorry don;t know how to post a link)

am Elainerees but forgotten my password....

Lawrie does sit on the Merricks' stairs and get hammered in Peter's Room - is there a fic where she does some more of this?

Beatrice and Eugenie look as though they might have been dressed by Changear, though I don't know who they could *be*....

The cartwheeling verger reminds me of Nicola cartwheeling across the school hall in Cricket Term.
Although Diana fits Ginty's character well, I think as far as looks go, she could be Pippa Middleton, stealing all the attention.
Tim I can imagine behind the scenes stage managing the whole event, but no, there doesn't seem to be anyone to 'fit' Miranda.
Jack merlin, not signed in.

Doesn't Lawrie cartwheel down the aisle of Wade Minster in End of Term, after the play - too lazy to go and check...

Yes, she does.

Could Mme Orly be the Queen Mother?

And the Queen was a naval wife in Malta before she became queen - wasn't Mrs marlow also a naval wife in Malta? Doesn't Nicola say that Rowan looks like "Mum in the Malta snaps" in Peter's Room? It's uncanny, i tell you.

Very neat indeed. I think I'd put Rowan down as Zara Phillips, myself - Rowan's pretty hot on the showjumping and ZP has quite a dry manner.

I may have got muddled... I'm sure you're right. I'm not near my books at the moment..
The fic I referred to is by 'rosathome' - sorry, I don't know how to do the link.

I always wondered what on earth Lawrie's swirly shift from Changear could POSSIBLY look like!

I always thought Lawrie's dress looked something like this: http://pages.nyu.edu/~seh1/Barbie/GIF/SwirlyCue.jpg (this is actually a Barbie-doll outfit). Or this but less floral: http://www.chictopia.com/photo/show/298271-psychedlic+daydreams-red-vintage-psychedelic-print-dress

Oh, superb! Especially the second one, I think. Can you imagine Crommie's raised eybrows?
Lol!

Looks just perfect for Lawrie to wear in the Thuggery Affair.
