[identity profile] ankaret.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] trennels
A while back I wrote enthusiastically to [livejournal.com profile] jediowl saying 'why don't we have a ficathon on Trennels like the one they just had on [livejournal.com profile] bujold_fic?' and she, very reasonably, said 'Not enough writers, and too complicated to organise, IMO - what about a drabble [1] challenge, instead?'

So, I was wondering whether we could have one post where people comment with drabble ideas they'd like to see written, and another post where people comment with drabbles they've written, either to those prompts, or just because they've had a Marlow plot bunny floating around forever. I know a lot of us write, whether it's in this fandom or others, and if it was just kept to two posts it wouldn't clutter up the friends pages of people who don't care for fic. Or perhaps it would be better to put the drabbles in their own posts, so that anything post-watershed could be put behind an LJ-cut.

What do you think?

[1] drabble: a 100-word story, though people seem to just use it to mean 'a short-short story' these days, and I've got no particular interest in checking up to see that people keep to exactly 100 words.

Ooh, I'd be up for that (though a bit scared, tbh, at the idea of actually writing Marlow fic). Still, could be interesting...

I really couldn't feel up to it, after having only read one of the books once...

I'll read anything Marlow-based, if you don't mind me being honest about what I think of it!

What I want is more about the conference!

Indeed, I've been reading yours!
And I know what you mean about the green ink stuff.

I would be interested!

Hee, that would be fun (and might make me write some fic, which would make me happy if no-one else). If we stick to the format of having fic in comments, anyone who's written something post-watershed could just comment with a link to a story posted on their own LJ (or elsewhere). That format seems to be working quite nicely in [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo atm...

Sorry, this is very ignorant of me, but what is post-watershed fic? I would have a go at a drabble or two, but don't want to commit some breach of protocol by post-watershedding when I don't know that's what I'm doing!

Also, could someone explain how to hide entries behind headings, so as to avoid clogging up an entire post? I would be very grateful indeed for clear instructions, so that I could have a go at writing a drabble in my journal!

Would like to have a go as long as a) I can put anything at all into 100 words - tricky surely - never tried, and b) if I can manage to sort out where and how to post.

As to criticism, the more the merrier.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about the word limit--I said when we were discussing this that personally I never mind if people are calling something a drabble that's a hundred and ten words. :)

*very tentatively sticks up a hand*

I feel like [livejournal.com profile] gair, I can't speak for the quality, but it would make me happy if I managed to write some fic. Although I don't promise not to do an Esther, I might just manage it if I have drabble ideas to respond to...

PS Do drabble ideas have to be based on canon, or can they be inspired by existing fics?

A metaphorical dachshund sounds so cute! What's more likely to happen is that I write it but chicken out of posting, or that I sit down in front of my nice clean piece of paper and only a very feeble little noise comes out.

Thank you for permish, and you've got me thinking!

*firmly* Esthers have miniature poodles, and Anstruthers have dachshunds. You were just tuning into my vibe :)

Sounds like fun. I've never really tried drabbles, as my stories tend to be longer, but I'd like to try

Maybe poss; I'm not feeling very inspired this month at all. But it's only a drabble, so...
